Concept - U-Bahnhof Georg-Brauchle-Ring, München
The Creation of a contemporary subway station that invokes the past history
of the development of the subway system in Munich (e.g. the late Sixties)
and a consciousness of the conection between art, industrial design, and
architecture. The Eastern and Western subway station walls will be tiled
with either a ready-made tile matching the colour specification of the
artist or a specially fabricated tile creating an industrial wall
painting" similar to other recent projects by the Artist. The tiles
will come in six colours, loosely based on the Seventies Olympic colours,
due the stations proximily to Olympic park and the importance of 1972
for the area in terms of design and the development of the
subway system which was developed for precisely for transporting people
through the city, whether it be to work or to an event".
The design will be based on a series of six interclocking colours. The
design or pattern itself, due to is cropping, will provide a endless scource
of contemplation to the traveller as is pattern is layered, complicated,
and unending yet simultaneously simple on the eye. The colours
and over all feeling of the Georg-Brauchle-Ring station will be futuristic
and industrial matching the needs of the area, the surrounding
architecture, and the history of the region, and the subway system itself.
